Long established in the E1 arena, Exar proves again it has the right combination of design expertise and market knowledge to bring innovative products to market. The XRT83SL28 (Eight channel E1 LIU) join several other E1 AFEs and LIUs to give designers a multitude of architecture combinations to meet, or exceed their OEM market requirements. This new E1 device, coupled with an already extensive product line including three seven-channel AFEs (XRT5897, XRT5997 and XRT81L27), several four-channel devices (XRT5894, XRT5793, XRT5794, and XRT82L24), plus three single-channel parts (XRT59L91, XRT7288 and XRT82D20), give EXAR a distinct marketplace advantage. This new product, along with Exar's other E1 LIUs and AFEs give customers a clear and rich product family spanning DS1/E1 to SONET/SDH. Applications for these new devices include multiplexers (PDH and SDH), digital cross connects, DECT (Digital European Cordless Telephone) base stations, and CSU/DSU equipment.
Overview of ProductsThe XRT83SL28 contains eight independent E1 channels, including independent jitter attenuators and data and clock recovery circuits for each channel. Each channel also performs the driver and receiver functions necessary to convert bipolar signals to logical levels, as well as the reverse. Devices with eight E1 channels provide the most efficient method of implementing 16-channel and 32- channel line cards.
Exar's R3 TechnologyTM (Reconfigurable, Relayless Redundancy), first introduced in 2002 as a breakthrough capability delivering key benefits to customers designing interface cards has now been extended to the E1 environment. The devices are Reconfigurable with integrated termination supporting both 75 and 100 W line impedances enabling customers to build one board with a single bill-of-materials, and gives them the agility to quickly respond and reconfigure devices for compressed design cycles without the unnecessary stock piling of inventory for all configurations. In addition, the XRT83SL28 employs Relayless Redundancy eliminating the need for external relays for 1:1 and 1+1 applications by establishing a back-up channel that can be brought on-line in the event of failure.
